What Type of 'Defence Mechanisms' Are You?

Saturday, June 18, 2011 JS Hanniffy 0 Comments

Defence Mechanism is a wide terminology in psychoanalysis. It was first coinned by Frued and then developed by his daughter, Anna, that defence appears to cope anxious that caused by the ego. Psychoanalysis itself defines defence mechanism is a phenomenon activity which often occurs without consciousness. In some circumtances, being defensive is sometimes hard to avoid, but it's normal. However, although it's believed to be normal, excessive defensive can lead to such as 'abnormal' attitude.
The terms of defence mechanisms in which cited by Freud and Anna is constitue one of the most fascinating distributions in the psychoanalysist field. There are more than ten types of defence mechanisms from theirs terms, but below are the most well-known types of defence mechanisms:

1. Intellectualization

Nowdays intellectualization is no longer only about people who posses IQ above avarage, higher education, or posses qualification in one or more fields, nor those who can argue so smartly or confidently. In fact, it's simpler than that: a positive self response in a situation is more important than those mention above.

For example, a person who has been diagnosed with an illness and he/she responses its diagnosis by learning about its illness, trying to survive by living healthier, and instead of surrendering or hopeless, this attitude responses now known as type of intellectualization defence mechanism. It sounds similiar with emotional intelligence: its how we asses our emotion in a situation.

2. Denial

Denial is when people who have consistent problem but denying their actual condition, such as drinking or drug problems. It's totally different from somebody who likes to get attention by foul him/herself act in a 'drama'.

3. Displacement

This type defence mechanisms is every so often occurs in everyday of life. When we face a bad situation, like angry with our boss or with our partner, we unconsiously/consciously to give free reign to somebody's else --- this is called a type displacement of defence mechanisms.

When the last time did you wreak your angry to somebody's else? Just remember, that you're just about  to displace your anger.

4. Avoidance

Avoidance attitude appears when we dislike with something, and then we try to avoid anything that related with its object. For example, when we dislike with a social life style, we avoid not to join any community society, visiting family, gathering with friends, etc.

5. Sublimation

This type is believed by Freud as a sign of maturity. It's just the opposite of displacement types, able to assess our emotion by distibute it to something more useful, like going to exercise.

6. Reality anxiety

Presumably, you're afraid of snake. You go walk on the beach and see a sea snake near you, and you run away from it as fast as possible. This defence mechanism type is cited by Freud as reality anxiety.

7. Compensation

Do you know anyone who do their job to realise their aspiration comes true? For example, someone who can't make his/her dream come true to be a famous singer might going to be a lecture at singing class --- this is a type of compensation defence mechanism.

Those types of defence mechanisms if it's used accordingly its measure, then nothing need to be worried about. As we often heard people say: "Nobody is perfect" --- we sometimes unable to against the human natures, unlike computer or software where we can analyse exactly accordance its formula.

Women, Cervical Cancer And The Smear Test

Friday, June 10, 2011 JS Hanniffy 0 Comments

Most women might familiar with so-called a smear test, but very few women aware how very important the test has to take. Smear test is known to detect the cells early  in the cervix part which believed can dangerously develope to become cancer (known also as cervical cancer). This test is highly recommended for those who aged 25-65.

Where the cells develop its cancer

In Ireland, the health department has taken this test into serious account, is by giving the test free to those women who are eligible to take the test. As the irish health department that very cares with those women, I soon take their letter invitation for the free smear test into serious consideration.

My first free test was actually just taken this morning. I felth butterfly in stomach as hadn't experienced with it  before. But my hubby had given a big encouragement to do the test.

Smear test position

It will be a bit uncomfortable, but it takes only about five minutes. The nurse who did for my smear test was very friendly and circumstantial. You might be given information about the aims of the smear test before the test is given. If enable you can ask about its conherence with cancer.

I heard many people said 'Before it's too late'; maybe this accordant for a warning message for women who think they're perfectly healthy.

A Perspective On Sex And Nudity

Thursday, June 09, 2011 JS Hanniffy 0 Comments

On Tuesday night, I and my hubby were surprised by very 'unusual' show programs  from some station tvs in Ireland. A miss nude Australia competition program and a study research of sexuality have surprisingly shown on tv before midnight.

If in Indonesia sex scenes of Hollywood movies were sensored due to reputed against the porno laws, that night we watched real show tv programs with totally unsensored!

Something had led me to a curious question to my hubby when I was looking at a nude big statue of Zeus in the middle of square when we were in Florence: "Why did they show the organ vital?"

                        Statue of  Zeus
And he simply said: "Because they think it's part of our body we shouldn't embarrased with our own body".

But it's nude?!!

It's art --- for those who undertand about art. But I didn't learn art, so I looked at it with still, very confused thinking of  'why' it has to be nude? But it's a very stunning statue thou.

Or here is another interesting image I got from internet:

So will you be ready for the 21st century parents?

It's More Than Just A Condom Ads

Wednesday, June 08, 2011 JS Hanniffy 0 Comments

If in Indonesia getting condom is generally used only by unmarried people or sex workers, in west europe, people can find it so easy, such as like in public places.

Like in the gym where I join with,  they provide a vending machine condom in the ladies toilet, or some can be found in clubs or pubs.

In Italy, I find it even more vulgar, they place it in where people from different ages can see it (or even get it!). Here is a condom machine photo I took from my last holiday in Italy.

It's more than just an ads
All parents there must have known what explanation they should give if their children ask about it. Is this a perspective of 21 century sex looks like? or Indonesia has just learnt nothing?

Five Things You Should Know About Shopping

Tuesday, June 07, 2011 JS Hanniffy 0 Comments

A best friend of mine is a lunatic shopper. As a fashion consultant that explains why she loves shopping . It is so possible for her to shop three times in a week. Many of us thought that she spends too much money on shopping. In fact, she's not a Shopalcoholic like in the movie who runs out of debt because of her addiction to shopping.

Her tips led me to do some search on the internet for shopping online (as I enjoy shopping online very much!). My search brings me to a shop online, Branders. As I'm interested in the site, I put it on bookmark, for my shopping online list.

However, she admits about her shopping that she spends no more than $ 50 for more than 3 items, sometimes even less than that. She gives us her secreet tips how to reduce our outgoing and in the same time you can still do your shopping.

1. Buy product with good value

Crisis economic is still ongoing but doesn't mean you can't shopping. Help yourself by looking good value for your needs. Many shopping online offer great value, such as Branders.com. Branders.Com has widely known on the internet for great shopping online. This claim is supported by many its customers.

2. Quality isn't always about brands

Don't be affected that only branded products have style. This is what many people sometimes think about good style and quality are for branded products only. In fact, many shops out there offer very good quality of products. My favourite item when shopping is usually bag, so any wholesale custom bags on websites will be considered!

And this one of the reasons why I put Branders.com on my bookmark: it offers so many good quality of bags with good prices!

3. A shop that have many choice for items

I like to chose a store where can offer different need items. Nowdays there so many business stores where have complete need items, such as household. Even easier, we can get it by online. Another recommendation from me to shop in Branders.com, is they offer many items we need most.

4. Safe place/site

Another thing need to be considered is its safety when shopping; whether shopping in store or online. Good place in here does not mean looks exclusive, but more about safety. This is periode of validity for online shopping too. Ensure the shop has a security, this is might necessary for unexpecting event. For online shopping, please read its terms and policy so that you know how safety its site security.

5. Make a list to know your limit!

Last but not least, making a list before you go shopping sometimes can reduce your desire for shopping too much. It might not help you so fast from your old long habit, but if you do it gradually it could help you stick with the plan.

Happy shopping!

The Movie Of Smoke Screen By Sandra Brown

Monday, June 06, 2011 JS Hanniffy 0 Comments

After view days finishing the book Smoke Screen of Sandra Brown, I've just realised that the book's been already filmed since 2010!

But as so many people refer, a film that inspired from a book will never ever as good as its book.

The beginning of the story wasn't really attrached my mood to finish reading it, therefore I finished it nearly a half year :) --- I thought I knew who the master behind the story.

In fact I was wrong. Too easy too guest is my typical character sometimes :).

But it gradually becomes interesting when Sandra shows a riddle on the story; this is a typical of Sandra Brown's book: lead the readers to think that they know all the story --- like other thriller story usually have.

Although I like other people, believed that the movie isn't as good as its book, but I'm still interested in watching its movie.

I look at the site review for this movie and also the main actress and actor characters: Britt and Raley.

Quite different from what I imagined about the two of them. In my imagination Britt was an independet woman, beautiful but not too sexy. In fact, in the movie, Brit appears as a very sexy woman. However, I'm fine with Raley appearance, the actor just like what I imagined.

Can't wait to see how good its movie.

Why Negative Thinking?

Friday, June 03, 2011 JS Hanniffy 1 Comments

Dealing with negative people every so often could influence our response unconsciously in perceiving their behaviour and attitude particularly when our thoughts uncontrollable. For many people, specially those who have difficulty with self-esteem and self expression, this situation sometimes can be psychologically distressful.

The question, which I often ask it to myself is, where do the negative thoughts actually come from? James Borg, a psychologist as well as the writer of Mind Power, refers that people generally will blame the situation or people instead of looking or changing their way of thinking: this is what evokes the negative thought spreads the entire our cells brain once it's attached.

During my observation with people (whom I know), there are two very common of people attitude give when they deal with a person who they 'think' negative: they comment with a personal judgment; or avoid the person.

The latter attitude is what most people do: as like I often do. You may have similiar experience as I have below about thinking positive.

I try to believe that a positive thinking leads to a positive attitude therefore I try as thinking positive as possible as to a person's attitude (no matter negative his/her attitude). For example (you may still remember a story about a man who'd been removed from my facebook friendlist).

However, he might realised after the given gift from me, how embarrased he was (if he's not too selfish) of talking bad about me. Indeed, I didn't hurt at all to hear that (honestly!). Instead I told the person who brought the news: "I don't really care: whatever he says or does". I thought it was enough to give her (the person who brought the news) a message about me that I'm not a type of person who likes to buying a 'bad news': not about me, particularly.

But there sometimes a 'real' problem where come along, not from our negative thought, but comes 'real' from the person: She really tried to provoke me. Don't you think the world is flooded with so many negative people?

Human brain is never stop thinking of something, no matter hard we try to empty it, the thought will go and  back with different 'story'. It is a kinda of  movie scenery which unstoppable and unavoided. Even in our sleep. Really.

An interesting psychology study discovered how the entire world and everything we do is the replica of a thought. It perhaps a bit frightening of finding bear in mind the other side of where we leave now so many people struggle with some difficulty society differences which often leads to violents and even wars: the creation of human thoughts?

When dealing with those negative thinkers, I try to be wiser: is by avoid them. As a student of psychology who learning human behaviour and mind should be able to handle these kinds of things, right? But no, I need some space to 'not think' about those negative thinkers.

Italy, I'm In Love (End)

Wednesday, June 01, 2011 JS Hanniffy 0 Comments

We woke up very early, around 8 o'clock. Got breakfast in hotel. The lads were already there when we arrived. We joinned them. I didn't feel want a big breakfast (try to control my eating) so I took only a glass of orange juice and kiwi (two glasses of juice won't make me fatter, right?).

About after 20 minutes breakfast, we left the restaurant and headed off to Duomo. The morning sun makes our holiday seems perfect: good day to walk around. But hang on, I saw a very long queue in Duomo!

A long queue in the first door Duomo
The lads had talked about how long it would be if we didn't book it in the previous day: no idea why they still didn't book it! Fortunately, we didn't queue for the first door: that the good news. There was a long enough queue after fifteen mnunites standing on the queue.

While waiting the queue moved, I did a bit window shopping :).We went into the building and led to a tube (which I didn't really like it). There were about a hundred of scaling ladders in the building. Without knowing where we were going, I followed the lads behind.
Stepping those scalling ladders was quite exhausting, luckilly I wore my runner shoes. Feeling embarrased for resting, I kept climbing. Fortunately, my hubby knew my limitness, he told me take a rest and climbed slowly. About after 20 minutes climbing we arrived in a floor where all the top of the walls were painted with religious artistic pictures.
The wall top roof paintings

We continued climbing to the next scaling ladders, this time wasn't really very long. It took approximately 15 minutes. And here the place where we arrived:

View from the building roof 1

View from the building roof 2

Another amazing views from Florence! All the tiredness were finally paid by seeing these spectacular views. I took a seat not far from the barriers (as I'm afraid of height!); but still able to enjoying my sights looked at those God creations. Only one word unspoken: Beautiful.

* * *

I don't feel want to end the story :(. Too many things were nice in Italy to tell and it won't be enough to write down just on six series. This story is a script of  memory in Italy. It's not a show off story with proven pictures or whatsoever. It's a passion of life.

We'll see you again, Italy.
