The Writer Vs The Reader

Posted by Jeng Sri 8 comments
I got the idea to write about this as I find some articles in Kompasiana with some comments on critical thinking; most of which lead the readers to discuss and argue about their articles.

A discussion would be an advantage in addition to your article if you know exactly what you write about in your article; however, most writers in Kompasiana have no specific background in writing; fortunately, Kompasiana has given the opportunity to people to give useful articles according to their own knowledge. However, this opportunity given by Kompasiana does not always seem a good idea as most writers are only concerned with the area of politics; there’s certainly nothing wrong with writing about politics, but it can be wrong if you only know a slight bit of knowledge about it and you attempt to invite your readers to debate the topic.

Taking ideas from recent phenomena can be a good idea for your article; nevertheless, if you don’t know the actual story of it; you may write something else that you are expert with. Here is a good example of some articles from Kompasiana; Adam Dan Iblis, which is written by Rukyal Basri.

You may have your own style how to write a good article according to your own experience; however, here are my simple tips in how to identify good articles and how to give a good critique of those articles.

For the Writer

1. Aims

A good writer knows what the main purpose of their writing is. They will give a slight picture of their aims in the very first paragraph; the message is clear and understandable.

The main body of the paragraph usually contains the explanation of your article. This also shows how much knowledge you have about the topic of your article.

2. Conclusion

The conclusion will be the most important section of your article. A conclusion usually comes at the end of your article by inviting your readers to discuss and debate it.

A good conclusion describes what you would like to discuss and debate with your readers.

For the Reader

1. Read

Please read carefully first before you add your comments in an article.

2. Comment

Make sure you give comment related to the article you read.

3. Ask and Critique

Asking questions and critiquing the article are different things. This is the most important thing that readers must remember; if you don’t understand the article, but you are interested in it; ask the writer about it with a clear question.

Do not give any criticism or attempt to argue it if you don’t have knowledge about the article.

4. Debate

You may debate the article as long you have enough knowledge of the article’s topic. Give your question and opinion by giving your own knowledge; or even better if you can give a reference so that it can lead the discussion to a better conclusion.

A good conclusion in a discussion can be achieved only by a good debate. A good debate usually results from both parties knowing the topic very well.

Posted by Jeng Sri 0 comments

Hello bloggers,

It’s good to be back in here and giving information about the whole things. Many of my friends ask about how I could write so many articles in one day, especially with lots of blogs. Well, recently I only write 2 to 3 blogs. JengSRI.Com and JengSRI’s Diary are my priority to up-date, but sometimes I write on another blog Si Gembel Sastra, which is about poem.

My diligent in writing is obviously because I love writing, and also yearn for improving my knowledge by sharing it with you. A lecture of mine said: “The best learning is teaching, and the best teaching is learning”, according to this I consider that by giving information to other people about your own knowledge that means you have been teaching yourself to learn deeper. What a wonderful quotation.

I like to use my spare time in writing; and my ideas are mostly coming from my blog readers. Their comments inspired me to discuss it on my blog.  I take all their comments in a variety of ideas for my articles. Usually from just one article I can get 3 to 5 topics to write for the next article. So, you can imagine where the ideas will be stop? It will be nonstop ideas.

If you start it your writing just from a simple thing such as comments from your readers; then you won’t need worry about how to get ideas of writing on your blog.

One thing you may also need remember as a writer blog; do not copy any article from others sites, books, magazine. You may allow getting ideas from other such as criticize the article or argue the article; or make expand it with your own article and your own thought.  If you want to give exactly the same words as others, then you must give a reference at the end of your post.

Although you may not a professional writer, you may need show our ability that at least we know about writing and we can write about something in our own style. So let’s avoid plagiarism. Happy writing!

How to Increase Your Income And Visitors Through Blogging

Posted by Jeng Sri 0 comments
Don’t tell me that you don’t know about blogging. Blogging activities have known as one of great opportunity for those who looking more income in their spare time. Yet this great opportunity is also supported by many free hosting such as Blogspot and Wordpress. What a good opportunity!

Let’s talk a slight about Blogspot. Blogspot is just a perfect hosting for most Bloggers; I love so much using blogspot. I got 3 blogs on blogspot in total! Moreover, they are now trying to progress their features by giving more feature in the body template. So far Blogspot give no difficulties in monetizing blog. I mean, not like other free hosting. From my own experience, most advertisers give a specific free hosting to join with them. Therefore I only put Blogspot to 4 my main advertisers as they accept Blogspot hosting only, or specific domain such as paid domain.

Another interesting stuff while you blogging is called business web directory. I myself just start to learn about this; it provides such as information about free we directory and quality directory. So, if you interested in directory, just click one of the links.

So, you get free hosting and money from blogging!

And another good thing from blogging is there is no specific skill requires for doing this. What you only need is keep up to date your blog; and also make a society through networks. Is that all?

Yup!

So how do we get the visitors and the income then?

It’s easy. There may something that you need while you Blogging such as editing html that needs your skill about it. Don’t worry about this; ask your society that you join with. There is plenty information about blogging that you can ask for. Try Google; it’s the most recommended site to ask. You will learn naturally by just typing it! And all the information will come to you easy and quickly!

You get job, money, and visitors. Now what? Increase them.

Keep your old methods to start a new plan. You know already how to get visitors for your blog, job and paid. Now, you are willing to expand your blog and job.

Let’s do it then. Track down your old methods to give you new ideas. Your old methods will give you a conception for the next plan. Do not leave any information that gives you new skills or jobs. Take all of them. Put on the list. Revise them. And take the best information that appropriate to you.

Make sure your blog contains are qualified enough if you seek to more jobs while blogging. Remember, most advertisers will take only good blog; the criteria of good blog is a blog that write about useful information and up to date.

Giving comment to each other in blogging atmosphere can be also giving you excitement in blogging activity. Such as blog-walking is a very common activity in blogging atmosphere. By doing this, you will not realise how your traffic and page rank grow fast.

Put your blog in a society as many as you can. For the best, put bookmark at the end of each your post; this will track your blog in Google if people search words that related to your blog. Network such as Facebook, Twitter, Plurk, etc can be good idea to increase your visitors.

After all, make fun while you blogging. It’s just as easy as you typing it.

What You Should Know About Make Up

Posted by Jeng Sri 0 comments

This is first time I like to write about make up; though I like this kind of things but I never write it on my blog. I’m inspired when I am thinking to change my make-up from Clinique to Mineral. I have been using Clinique since the past of two years; so far they give no problem to my skin. However, Mineral seems give more natural contain substance than Clinique.

For all girls, using make up may be necessary for their appearance and as natural needs. Don’t you think so? I think so. I know about make up since I was a teenager; let’s say since I was secondary. My mom always appears with very nice appearance and with beautiful make up looking. And the most inspiring is she never took long when using make up. Since then I learn from her how to use make up properly in quick way.

I will write more about how to make up without take long on next post. This is what all men hate it from women because we always take long for make-up; they only like to see when it’s already look beauty, but not waiting while we put make up on, I guess :).

Anyway, let’s back to topic.

Here are some of my tips what you should know before you put on your make up;

First thing what you should know when you want to use make up is know what type of your skin is. Most girls don’t think about this carefully. They just buy lots of make-up which may be not good for their skins. Know what your type of skins will help you from skin problems that may happen if the products inappropriate with your skins.

Seek a beauty consultant if you unsure about your type skins.

2. Weather

What is the related weather and make up? It is much related, dear. You can’t use a winter season product of make up while it’s in summer season. If you have no problem with it before, you may continue to use it; however make sure it will not affect your skin later.

Weather can be very affected your skin, particularly when you wear make up. There is no exception even the product is good on your skin. I myself find it a problem with the product that I usually use such as Clinique. I usually use Clinique while I am in Ireland; however it doesn’t seem alright on my skin when I get back to in Indonesia as weather in Indonesia is quite hot; I have to change different product to keep away my skins from irritating.

3. Quality product

Buy and use only quality product that already tested by trusted company. I know that quality product sometimes is so expensive; a quality product usually takes longer to use, from 3 to 6 months as you only need take a small amount of size from the cream. It will be different if you use inequality product.

So, give a chance for your skin.

4. Age
Make sure that you know about your type product according to your age. Do not buy product if it doesn’t appropriate to your age. You can’t buy teenager make up just because you think that it will make you look younger. Getting old is getting old. You only need how to take care of your skin. So, be wise.

Regardless of what product you take, remember to always know your type skins.

Happy make up girls!

Invasion of television service providers | Direct TV

Posted by Jeng Sri 0 comments
A competition of television service providers lately have spread in some cities of country in Europe such as Ireland. Whether experienced company or new company; they both have similar offer on their products. It may be great advantage for us as we have more choices to look for a good deal on the products and the price; however we may also need more careful in choosing product. I myself sometimes like to use a new product, if they seem good, why not to try it? In country such as in Ireland; mostly people like to use a company that already well-known in their product such as the quality of their product and how long they already exist on its company. However, people now seem start to look more carefully on spending their money as the crisis economic still going in Ireland, and some other countries.

I myself just try to use a television service provider a year ago. This service television provider is still new on their products. I buy one a package exclusive from this company, which means it’s included telephone line and internet. I find it that this company is still trying to progress their product by changing the tools function on their channels. However, I don’t really like the recent tools. Instead I prefer the old one as it was very much easier when I changed the channels, fortunately not the same with the recent one; it takes longer when I turn on the TV, approximate 20 seconds. Yet, when I want to see the description of the program, it appears on the big size, almost as the same size as the screen. I am not sure if I can complain about this, I mean by saying that I prefer the old rather than the new one. They should give kind a vote to their customers after they change the tools to make sure that the customers are happy enough of their new changing tools.

My story above is inspired by DIRECTV, which is known a product review by bloggers. And honestly, I don’t know at all about DIRECTV. When I search in Google by typing Direct TV.ie, I was surprise that DIRECTV is also used by people in Ireland. I am not sure how well-known Direct TV in Ireland; it may a new television service provider or may be already long enough in Ireland. However, the offers of DIRECTTV seems great offer to me. I may look further for the information, what do you think? How is your experience while using your television service provider? Do you find it ok with their service?

Feeling And Mind (A requirement of Om Basri)

Posted by Jeng Sri 0 comments
According to Om Basri’s requirement a couple of days ago: “ Ani, duluan mana lahirnya : instinct atau feeling dengan fikiran ?” It supposed to answer on Sunday; however, I was on my holidays after the long month in a reaseach ;now, I will attempt to give my best answer. As I mentioned in my answer according to its question that the question can be answered in three different type of answers; and these type of answers divided into three theories namely; theory of philosophy, theory of psycho-analysis, and theory of psychology. As Om Basri already said they must be intertwined to each other; and I will agree with it.

Here is my explanation why I agree with it: They are intertwined due to theory of philosophy and theory of psycho-analysis is part of psychology’s subjects. Thus, when we talk about psychology it will lead us to a brief story of philosophical theory, psycho analytic theory, and psychology. However, since the 20th century many ‘thinkers’ began to ask the validity of philosophy and psycho-analysis knowledge, psychology was intuitive for its validity, which means every theories of both fields practised and theorized by a valid experiment i.e. proven by a science method for its valid. Science itself was intuitive from one of philosophy’s branches.

Before I answer Om Basri’s question I shall remind him, or whoever read this, that every answers may affect to his/your knowledge and his/your beliefs. Therefore, whichever the question takes, please remember, it’s all about theory of knowledge. We may believe or disbelief, or even argue it, but we’d better had a good proportion in its knowledge to discuss about it otherwise let’s just read it leave it in a peace. My writing is not for gaining comments; I prefer a comment that lead us to a discussion rather than just ‘comment’.

I am sorry if I have to tell this. Sometimes someone gives unrelated comment with my writing just only to get a visit back. And sometimes somebody just asked a question straight away and when I answered it he stubbornly argue it although he realised that he did not have any knowledge to what he questioned. If I don’t continue its discussion that because I avoid a compound fracture between us. I know that everyone has different method according to their own purpose at writing; therefore let’s keep respect to each other styles and let’s we discuss something smartly according to our knowledge.

*Theory of Philosophy*

One of branches in philosophy that study about behaviour and mind is called philosophy of mind. There is a particular subject that can lead us to understand about the mind-body problem, it’s called dualism. Dualism studies feeling and mind works. In theory of dualism, it considered that the work of feeling and mind depends on the condition of our mental events and physical events. This is a very huge topic, and it’s impossible to give a simple conclusion in this subject as this area is still studied by those professional philosophers. And I this is not my particular subject of area.

However, I’ll give just a simple of imagery; suppose feeling is X and mind is Y. The event of X caused by event of Y; or can be the opposite. Y must contribute something to X, or conversely. When I feel pain I could think to cry or not to cry (my thought influenced by the surroundings). Furthermore, it also depending on the condition mental or physical the persons (I will explain further on the next writing in the theory of psycho-analysis).

Om Basri’s question remind me of a joke question such as: “Which is born first egg or chicken?” My answer was (I was 15 years old when this question was asked by my brother): “Of course chicken first as God doesn’t create egg”. Well, it was 17 years ago.

Will be continued....

Descriptive Research; Experiment In Psychology

Posted by Jeng Sri 0 comments

There are three of research methods in psychology namely; descriptive research, correlation research and experiment research; descriptive research is the most method I prefer to do in my research. Although I also like to do the other research in my research, but I assume descriptive research is more naturally in its method since the group is not controlled and manipulated by researcher.

What does descriptive research mean?

Descriptive research according to psychology is an experiment that study human and animal’s behaviour in a natural setting. Case study, Naturalistic observation and Survey are also categorized in descriptive research.

Case Study

At the very beginning I study Psychology this method has taken my attention to specially study it further. The feature of this research is due to provide rich data for the research. For instance, you may still remember my essay about Rama who separated from his parents. This case was studied almost 5 years ago. Rama’s case categorized as part of case study as its data already provide. In this case study I observed Rama’s behaviour in a natural setting, and avoided to get involve in Rama’s life. This is the reason we call it natural setting. The subject we observe uncomprehending that they have been observed.

Naturalistic observation

In naturalistic observation has similar research in case study. The observation is setting naturally. Many of psychologists recently are using this method to observe a bully in school. Likely case study; researcher set up their observation in a natural setting by avoid to get involved in a class. The purpose of this research is to find out why some peer avoids helping the victim.

Naturalistic observation research is also used to observe in animal’s behaviour such as observing orang utan while learning to use human’s tools.

Survey

Type of this research usually used to get a vote in an issue. For instance, "which politic party is going to win in 2011?"

All these three type of descriptive research provide rich data on the subject, and this may advantage while doing the research. However this research also has disadvantage as it slightly withhold explanation in the cause-effect.

Sale Season Influence

Posted by Jeng Sri 0 comments
What is a great to do between December and January in UK and Ireland? Obviously shopping! Why is different shopping in January or in another month? It is a huge different. Aside from June, December and January is another greatest month for sale. Most people would prefer to use this special season for buying their needs as the sale start from 10% to 70%. This discount would be definitely a great opportunity for those who looking great stuff and great price. However, you may need to be careful in this season as you may spend to unnecessary goods.

The persuasions from the sale always provide great offers. We occasionally find our self difficult to get rid of great offers. It is difficult. However, here are some of factors why some people eager to buy something even it are unnecessary for them;

1. Persuasion Effect
What you first remember when you something nice in a shop is all the sale is about persuasion. The way they decorate the window shop will be catching your eyes to see what stuff they offer.

For instance, you have planned to buy only what on the list that you made, but you see something that’s catching your eyes that you absolutely not need it at all; however, the decoration in the window shop has persuaded you to buy.

2. A Feeling Happy
Some people just a feeling happy when they think that they can get a great price for something they can’t afford to it. The sale season may be a great opportunity for them.

3. Price Comparison
Some people unconsidered in sale price; they think price in sale season would not be a big different with normal season. However, the sale season may be good to seek the differences in season sale and normal season.

4. A great deal
This is the most main reason that considered why people like shopping in sale season. A 1000 Euro might be too much for you to spend; however, the sale season can give you a great deal to get your dream-stuff.

Regardless of what you decide to buy; be smart to spend your money. Happy shopping!

Behavioural Study Of Obedience; Milgram (1963)

Posted by Jeng Sri 0 comments

Do you still remember my previous posting about obedience that studied by Milgram? This study has spread in the social psychology as one of the most influence factor in changing our belief and behaviour. This is also may refer to Asch’s study about conformity in how a person reacts in a society (see the previous posting: The power of conformity; Social influence). On the other hands both of these studies have amused in the science field.
How do these behaviours effect in a society?
You may never realise that our reaction to something is influence caused by a person or a group. In the Milgram study, he studied how powerful obedience affected a person. Milgram had proved this in his study by taking people into a group who were from different background. The study was about punishment in learning experiment. All but one was confederate with the experimenters. The teachers were as the subject for the experimenters, and the learner was confederate with the experimenters (see the picture below).

The all subjects were instructed by the experimenters to give shock generator each time the learner gave error answer, which was starting from 15-volt up to 450 volt. The shocking would be increased by the teacher if the learner made more error.
As you read this you may think you would definitely not obey to do harm thing such as that, would you? Neither do I. However, Milgram’s study has carried a shock finding in the psychology research. In his study found that most people would willing to do harm thing to other people. The study about obedience had shown how the subjects kept going to give the electricity shock to the learner. Furthermore, only a few of the subjects gave up not to continue the experiment; however, the rest of the subjects refused to do it in 450 volt!
All the subjects weren’t being punished by the experimenters to do it. The instructions were only:
1.      Please continue
2.      I want you to continue
3.      You should continue
4.      You have no choice, you must continue
If this instruction given in Hitler’s life time where people had been punished by a weapon, certainly people would have no choice to obey it; but how did these subjects obey to the experimenters? Particularly they did not know them at all? They could go away and left the lab straight away when they found it such as sadistic experiment. Instead they kept to stay and continued the experiment.
According to Milgram’s study, I consider how our behaviour effecting somebody else’s behaviour and so on. A’s behaviour would influence B’s behaviour, and B’s behaviour would influence C’s behaviour and so on. These whole things surround us seem created by our behaviour.

The Power Of Conformity; Social Influence

Posted by Jeng Sri 0 comments

Hey, here I am. Back again in subtends of Psychology topic’s area. The recent phenomena, either in internet or wake-life (real-life) have inspired me a lot to carry this topic into an idea to write about this, and link them to psychology.
Before we go to the topic, I will write a slight story of my childhood whereas most people thought that I was not typical a teenager who difficult to comfort and obey to something; in other words we call it in bahasa as ‘pembangkang’. Fortunately, my mom had a differ opinion to others and always defended me and said that in fact of the spite I was smart girl. Thank you indeed Mom. Don’t take it seriously of what my Mom said about me; I wasn’t that smart. She was just trying to make the whole things in a positive thought as I was ‘nakal’ enough in my childhood till teenager life.
I often got trouble at school just as I did not obey the rules such as must wore black shoes on Monday (I hated it so much. And my reason was: what was making it different wearing black shoes on Monday or in another day? Absolutely nonsense and stupid I assumed) so I had to clean all the toilets at school as the reward of being bad student. Well, honestly, I was so happy to clean all the toilets rather than must to obey the rules which actually I did not understand what it was for.
That’s a slight of story of my teenager hood.  However, on the other hands some people likely find it easy to conform something even though they know it is wrong, particularly if it’s only you the person who disagree.
Why do we conform?
Below are some reasons why do people conform;
1.   Acceptance/approval
We don’t want to be denied of a society where we live.
2.   Avoid criticism
Some people dislike being criticized by others.
3.   Decrease ambiguity
Too many ambiguities would rear confusions.
4.   Clarify what should be done
Provide ideas to solve problem.
5.   Validate self
As an attendance to proof that we’re in that group.
6.   Reinforced
To reinforced the conformity.
7.   Social comparison
To compare the sociality life.
You may want to add more the reasons above according to your own experience. However, the reasons above are experimented by a research method in psychology ethics. According to those reasons above, thus it has clear account how forceful conformity effecting our behaviour or attitudes.
Let me give you one of study research in this field. Asch has shown in his study research in 1951 how powerful conformity to change a person’s behaviour, attitude and even strongly effecting mind and belief. In his study research about conformity, he made a group, about 7 people. All were experimenters excepted one was as subject. The experimenter asked each of them to conform about a diagram of lines (see below).

As I said earlier that all were experimenters excepted one was as the subject. The question was the experimenter asked which the same line from the exhibit 1 according to exhibit 2? That was so easy answer, wasn’t it? If we ask a 4-year-old kid, they would answer it easily.
First to 3 sessions were fine. All the experimenters answered all the questions rightly.
However, when the experimenters gave their conformity that exhibit I same as the exhibit II B. However, the subject still gave his conformity to agree that their answer was right. Though he knew exactly it wasn’t right.
How do you find it on your own experience? I am dead sure you got many the phenomena of conformities.
So, what factors are affecting conformity?
1.   Size of group
2.   Cohesiveness
3.   Unanimity
4.   Public commitment
5.   Culture
6.   Personality
7.   Gender
See those factors above and link them to the recent phenomena in our life and this beautiful country; Indonesia.
